The truth of the Holocaust is on trial in this riveting real-life courtroom drama with Rachel Weisz and Timothy Spall.
American academic Deborah Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz) is a Jewish professor of Holocaust Studies who is sued for libel by British historian David Irving (Timothy Spall). He claims that by branding him a Holocaust denier she has damaged his career. Crucially, the suit is brought in London, where the legal system places the burden of proof on the defendant. In order to win the case, her team will have to demonstrate that Irving knew he was lying in denying the truth of the Holocaust. With Irving representing himself and hard-hitting barrister Richard Rampton (Tom Wilkinson) in Lipstadt's corner, the stage is set for a courtroom showdown of enormous historical significance. Brilliantly dramatised by playwright David Hare, with superb performances from its A-list cast, this compelling film is directed by veteran Mick Jackson, whose credits include 'The Bodyguard'.
